Missons

A native of Peru, Dr. Vilma Vega first felt a call to missions during her childhood. Dr. Vega has led about 30 medical mission trips to countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, She is co-founder and former president of Hearts Afire, a non-profit Christian humanitarian organization, established in 2006 and currently based in Bradenton, FL., that sends doctors, nurses, ministers, churches and others on medical mission trips all over the world.

As a leader of Hearts Afire, Dr. Vega developed key relationships with foundations and donors, laying the foundation for many international successes, including the construction of a hospital in Kenya and more than 10 churches. Most were built in The Amazon of Peru. Her work also has led to the drilling or installation of more than 50 wells and water purification systems around the world. Through the leadership of the co-founders, medical, dental and spiritual services have been provided to more than 50,000 people, including the coordination of extensive feeding programs. Care has been provided at three international orphanages and extensive educational programs and support have been made available to communities, medical schools, clinical officer schools and government networks worldwide.
